Pedro Almodovar the Spanish Film Director

Pedro Almodóvar Caballero was born in Calzada de Calatrava, 1949. He's an Academy Award winning Spanish film director, screenwriter and producer.

Almodóvar is one of the most successful and internationally recognised Spanish filmmakers of his generation. His films are known for their complex narratives and employ melodrama and use elements of pop culture, popular songs, irreverent humor, strong colors and glossy décor. Passion, desire, family and identity are Almodóvar’s most prevalent themes. His films enjoy an international following and he has become a major figure in world cinema.

He founded the Spanish film production company El Deseo S.A. with his younger brother Agustín Almodóvar who has produced almost all of Pedro’s films.

He became famous in Madrid for his soundless short films which he would provide dialogue and live music during the playing of them. His passion for the craft of film making is incredible and it shows in the quality of his work.
